Epinions Never pull over for directions again.

by  tk2x,  Dec 27, 2001
Pros: Small, light, attractive case, excellent backlit display, waterproof, outdoor durable. Highly recommended.
Cons: Does not give driving directions (turn Left/Right), screen updates sometimes slow, hard to type addresses.
The Bottom Line: Perfect balance of features and cost. It works well when driving/trying to find a place, and excellent in the outdoors, walking around, and traveling long distances.
Review: For men, who have a genetic coding that precludes actions like, say, pulling over to ask for directions, and encourages behaviors such as, say, playing with electronic gadgets and wandering into the woods, this little device called the Garmin eTrex...

Epinions INCREDIBLE TECHNOLOGY

by  jrhaz,  Mar 19, 2002
Pros: It has more features than I can use
Cons: The maps get a little cluttered in urban areas
The Bottom Line: IF YOU WANT A LIGHTWEIGHT ACCURATE GPS THAT CAN DOWNLOAD MAPS AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE GET IT
Review: Until I got this unit I had owned a Magellan. It was a second generation generic GPS.
At the time it was a pretty advanced unit (1996). It was finally time to upgrade and the
options of the newer GPS units took a bit of education.
I...

Epinions Great GPS for the price

by  wayneblue,  Apr 9, 2006
Pros: It is a very reliable product and nice to have while hiking.
Cons: It takes some time to learn how to use.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend the Extrex Legend GPS for those of you who do a lot of hiking. It will help you get back safely.
Review: I bought my GPS 15 months ago. It cost me just under $200 dollars at Wal-Mart. I have been very pleased with what I have got out of my GPS. I use it to go hunting in Utah and I have never had any serious problems with satellite reception. You cann't be ...

Epinions Complexity made simple

by  ray_c_yuen,  Jan 11, 2004
Pros: Small, easy to use and accurate.
Cons: Price of CD Rom software.
The Bottom Line: Easy to use. The tiny push button joystick suits computer literate users. How did I ever live without one?
Review: I've always been interested in Global Positioning System (G.P.S.) technology. Especially since the U.S. Military removed that error correction thing. As far as I knew, what GPS units did, was show the longitude and latitude of the unit. I looked around ...

Epinions My first love in GPS world

by  judhi,  Sep 11, 2003
Pros: Small, battery last long, map capability
Cons: no audible sound, no external antena jack
The Bottom Line: Good for starter in GPS world. Don't buy those GPS without map capability.
Review: I have heard about GPS technology and devices long before finally bought this eTrex Legend in the end of 2002 based on the recommendation of some friends. At first I was just happy with the built-in Worldmap (mine is Asian version, no US map) which is ...

Epinions Small, rugged, inexpensive, tons of features

by  stenz,  Jan 26, 2004
Pros: Small, light, durable, inexpensive, easy to use
Cons: Easy to lose a signal, more features than I need
The Bottom Line: A fantastic portable GPS unit that has many uses. It isn't perfect, but is still head and shoulders over other units out there. I wouldn't suggest using in the car.
Review: I am a runner and wanted a GPS unit that I could carry with me which would allow me to track the distance that I went and later upload data to a computer to track speed and elevation change (whatever unit I chose didn't have to include the software to do ...

Epinions A MUST have for a Geo-cacher

by  ElmoTicle,  Apr 28, 2003
Pros: Size, Cost, Ease of Use
Cons: Battery Usage, Cost of Mapping Software
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a GPS that offers alot of features at a reasonable price, then the Garmin Legend is for you.
Review: 3 days ago I got bit by the Geocaching bug. For those that don't know what Geocaching is, basically you enter lat and long's into your GPS unit and head out in search of a cache. In this cache is "treasure". For a more indepth description check out...

Epinions An amazing piece of technology

by  sdleo,  Feb 21, 2002
Pros: Amazing array of features. Small, light, and durable. Superb for road trips and flying.
Cons: Only Garmin brand software can be used to load maps.
The Bottom Line: Outstanding device! If it had expandable memory, it would be the only GPS unit you'd ever need.
Review: I recently upgraded from a plain-vanilla Etrex because I wanted something that had mapping features. What an amazing device!

This unit is incredibly useful whether you use it for hiking, driving or flying. I've used it for all three activities...

Pros: Loaded with great features. Easy to use.
Cons: Sometimes slow to acquire signal.
The Bottom Line: Fantastic handheld GPS. Loaded with features and very easy to use.
Review: The Garmin eTrex legend is everything that they advertised - and more. While it has more built-in features than most people will normally need, it is incredibly easy to learn to use and all the controls are just where you'd want them.
I have used...

Epinions Works well.

by  biholzman,  Feb 10, 2003
Pros: Very compact, fine detailed screen, good lock.
Cons: Base map can be crude. Locking can be slow. Needs a color display.
The Bottom Line: A nice compact unit. I would recommend it.
Review: This is my first GPS and I have been using it for about 4 months now, both with and without MetroGuide USA installed. Most of my use has been in my car.

First, I have been very happy with this unit. I have found it to work quite reliably,...
